Why does Council charge a fee for my approval?

Council must implement a system within the Shire, which ensures that every septic tank system has a licence to operate. The Council must process the applications for approval to operate their system and determine the least cost-effective approach to ensure the effective management of septics in the Shire. In addition to this the Council must develop a strategy for on-site sewerage management for which a draft was recently advertised to the community. To achieve this Council adopted an application and renewal charge to meet the administrative costs of processing the application and to meet with the cost of developing the strategy. See also Council's 'On-Site Sewerage Management Strategy' to be found under Planning & Development, Planning Controls and Instruments on this site.
