Is my septic system going to be inspected by Council?

Within the Wollondilly Shire there are approximately 8000 septic tanks systems of one form or another. The new regularity system introduced by the Government does not require individual inspections however, it encourages a cost effective approach. For this reason Council is currently considering an audit program whereby systems will be inspected based on risk, location or in response to public complaints, or Council Officers own observations. This approach meets with the recommendations of the Local Government in that where random inspections are carried out to audit septic systems as part of Councils sewerage management strategy, the costs of those inspections would be recovered from the current  renewable fee. This will further assist in keeping fees and costs to a minimum.
