By the time the data is released the Census information is out of date. What is the most recent population estimate?

The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes an annual Estimate of Resident Population (ERP) for Local Government Authorities (LGAs), and larger Statistical Areas, Regions, States and Australia. The estimate is based on a range of information collected by the Government including Council's development approval data, Medicare registrations and Births and Deaths information. The ERP data is broken down by the age groups and sex but is not available for areas smaller than the LGAS (ie Wollondilly Shire as a total). The preliminary estimates are revised for the previous 5 years after the census count and then become final estimates. The latest preliminary ERP for the year to 30 June 2002 for Wollondilly LGA is 38,981.
