Does my dog have to be microchipped?

The following groups of dogs must be permanently identified through microchipping:

  • Puppies must be microchipped before they are 12 weeks old.
  • The following groups do not require microchipping:
  • Working dogs - a dog trained and used primarily as a working dog and used for droving, tending or protecting stock.
  • Greyhounds, Police Dogs and animals ordinarily kept outside NSW.
