Borrowing Services

Last modified: August 14, 2008 - 2:52 PM

We have a range of borrowing services on offer.

Library Cards

Membership to Wollondilly Library and Information Service is available to all residents of the Wollondilly Shire. To apply in person just fill out a membership form, show id with a current address and you will receive your library card straight away. Apply online and you just need to pop in and show your id to pick up your card.

Your Library card allows you to borrow books, videos, tapes and other items from Picton Library, and the Mobile Library.

You are responsible for the security and use of your (and your children's) Library cards. If you lose your Library card the Library must be notified that the card has been lost so your card can be cancelled.

There is no charge for cancelling a lost Library card. However, there is a fee for the issuing of a replacement card (as resolved by Council each year - details upon enquiry).

Return of Library Items

Library items may generally be borrowed for three weeks (one week for videos, music CDs, DVDs, Graphic Novels and magazines). Items can be renewed if they have not been reserved by another borrower.

Some high-demand items are issued for one week, with no renewal option. Inter-Library loan items are issued for the period set by the remote lending Library.

Library items may be returned to either Picton Library or the Mobile Library.

Late Returns

There is a late returns chute open at Picton Library 24 hours a day for the return of books and other Library items.

If a book or Library item appears to be overdue, the Library will contact you to remind you to return it.

There are no fines for late returns.

However, if you do not reply to written requests to return overdue items the Council will charge you for the full replacement cost of the item including processing. Council may also undertake proceedings to recover this debt.

Library items are publicly-funded items of community property. We always prefer to see items returned so that others may use them.

What Can You Borrow?

There is a borrowing limit of three items per card for Music CDs, videos and DVDs.

The issue of books on the same subject may be limited during popular school projects. Otherwise there are no other restrictions as to the number of items you may borrow.

Parents/guardians have the responsibility of regulating their children's loans (including number of items and content).

Reference and Local Studies items are not available for loan. You are welcome to make notes from them, or to make photocopies of them at the Library (subject to copyright).
