U-Turn the WheelLast modified: October 23, 2009 - 3:07 PM
Wollondilly Shire Council together with Picton Rotary Club since 2001 developed a road safety initiative which aims to provide support and address the injury crashes in the Wollondilly Shire through the delivery of practical road safety information at a local level and where possible using local resources. This initiative is called U-Turn the Wheel. The U-Turn the Wheel program targets young adults in different facets of driver safety to improve young road users awareness of and realistic perception risks associated with being a driver/passenger of a motor vehicle. The theme focuses on year 11 students at Picton High School and Wollondilly Anglican College and over 120 students have completed this year. The next U-turn the Wheel is scheduled for Thursday, 29 October 2009. The Program is broken into 6 sessions and students rotate through these sessions throughout the day. All sessions encourage interaction in order to ensure an interesting and informative program. The sessions are intended to raise the awareness of the skills, knowledge and attitudes required for safe and responsible driving. “U-Turn the Wheel has been a very successful Program for our Shire. Our commitment to road safety is a high priority because we have so many rural roads in Wollondilly. Any information we share with our young drivers is an advantage,” said Mayor Cr Col Mitchell.
U-Turn the Wheel is Supported by Council, Wollondilly Road Safety Group, Picton Rotary, NRMA Picton, NSW Police, Wollondilly Anglican College, Picton High School, Jax of Thirlmere, Cawdor Haulage and the local Fire Service. Contact details |
