The Agriculture and Rural Industries Strategic Reference Group provides advice to help shape Council’s future directions for agriculture and rural industries. The group supports the development of policies, plans and strategies aligned with Council’s Community Strategic Plan, with a focus on rural land management, agricultural industry development and sustainable growth. Members help identify challenges and opportunities for the sector, including ways to support agri-business and rural industries linked to Sydney’s second airport, while representing the needs of rural landowners across Wollondilly.

Indigenous
The Indigenous Strategic Reference Group helps guide Council’s approach to Indigenous culture, heritage and related matters in Wollondilly. The group provides advice and feedback to support Council policies, strategies and initiatives, including the development of the Reconciliation Action Plan. It also helps raise awareness of Indigenous culture, support important cultural events such as NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week, and strengthen respect and understanding across the community. Members also provide input on the needs and challenges of Indigenous communities, helping Council make more informed and respectful decisions.

Place, Landscape & Environment
The Place, Landscape and Environment Strategic Reference Group helps guide Council’s approach to planning, growth, infrastructure and environmental sustainability in Wollondilly. The group provides advice and feedback on policies, plans and strategies that support responsible growth while protecting the Shire’s unique character, landscapes and natural environment. Key focus areas include growth and planning, local roads, traffic management, public transport, parks and reserves, natural resource management, energy efficiency and climate resilience. Members help Council consider how Wollondilly can continue to grow in a sustainable and well-planned way.
Tourism & Local Jobs
The Tourism and Local Jobs Strategic Reference Group plays a role in shaping Wollondilly Shire Council’s efforts to boost the local economy through tourism development and job creation. Focused on areas such as tourism marketing, economic development, agritourism and access to education and training, the group provides advice on strategies to increase visitation, support local businesses, and promote Wollondilly as a key destination. The group also helps guide the activation of employment lands, advocate for strategic tourism initiatives, and support partnerships between tourism operators, the local community, and government agencies, ensuring that tourism remains a driving force in the region’s economic growth.
FLOODPLAIN RISK MANAGEMENT
The Floodplain Risk Management Committee helps guide Council’s approach to managing flood risk in Wollondilly. The committee provides advice and feedback on floodplain risk management plans, in line with the NSW Flood Prone Land Policy and the NSW Government’s Flood Risk Management Manual. Its focus includes reducing the impact of flooding on communities and property, supporting sustainable flood management practices, and strengthening collaboration between Council, government agencies and the local community.
Wollondilly Shire Council acknowledges the Dharawal and Gundungurra peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land, honouring their enduring cultural and spiritual connection to Country and recognising their ongoing contribution to the Shire.
