Public Exhibition of Draft Integrated Water Management Policy and Strategy

Public Exhibition of Draft Integrated Water Management Policy and Strategy

Closes: 17/06/2020 5:00pm

The Wollondilly Shire Council is exhibiting the Draft Integrated Water Management Policy and Strategy as required by the Local Government Act (1993).

The policy and strategy focuses on stormwater and wastewater in new urban developments, and the actions Council will take to move towards smarter and more resilient water systems. The aim is to deliver integrated water solutions for Wollondilly (in the context of a growing population and changing land use) that achieve the following:

  • Ensure stormwater and wastewater from future urban development has a zero impact on local waterways
  • Improve the condition of natural waterways, to remain swimmable, all year round
  • Ensure that urban development doesn’t affect the pristine tributaries of the Nepean River within Wollondilly Local Government Area and downstream
  • Use all sources of water to support sustainable development including community liveability, biodiversity, climate resilience and local economies such as agriculture.
  • Ensure water sensitive urban design elements are incorporated within public infrastructure and private development
  • Decrease the use of potable water
  • Increase the amount of public and private water reuse and recycling
  • Promote water conservation and reuse
