Wollondilly Shire Council is partnering with the Office of Environment and Heritage and Conservation Volunteers Australia to host a community information session in Appin on the Wollondilly Koala Conservation Project.

The session will feature presentations from local koala experts and the launch of a short film about the Wollondilly Koala Conservation Project.

The film shows how the Project began in response to community reports of koala sitings in Appin prior to 2015, which led to Council entering into an initial partnership with the Office of Environment & Heritage (OEH) to study the movements and food sources of the koalas. The success of this study led to a grant from the Saving Our Species fund to expand the survey work.

The film follows the OEH and volunteers as they track some of the Project’s collared koalas in their native bushland around Appin and other parts of the Wollondilly Shire.

After the film and presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to go spotlighting to experience some of the local wildlife firsthand.

The event is open to all interested community members.
