SciGround App Pilot
Feb. 22 — Apr. 22, 2018
Picton Botanic Gardens
Wollondilly Council is supporting a pilot program that will transform public spaces into science playgrounds using a mobile app.
For this pilot, Council is partnering with SciGround, a social initiative which aims to activate public spaces, inspire a love for science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and improve activity rates amongst children using augmented reality.
Aimed at engaging children aged five years old and up and their families, the program will run in Picton’s Botanic Gardens from 22 February until 22 April.
After installing the free app, children and parents can use their phone to see ‘virtual’ animals appear around them in the physical world and play a game to learn more.
Because SciGround encourages people to learn and be active outdoors, participants are reminded to remain aware of their surroundings while playing.
Parents are encouraged to supervise children while they play, and to join in the fun.
To use SciGround during the trial, visitors will need an Apple device which supports augmented reality (iPhone 6S or newer, iPad 2017 or iPad Pro).
SciGround plans to expand the range of compatible devices following the trial.
Families are encouraged to share their experiences and feedback about the SciGround app at www.sciground.com/wollondilly
SciGround 'Come and Try' Day
Come along to the Picton Botanic Gardens this Saturday to try a fascinating new ‘augmented reality’ education game. SciGround transforms the outdoors into a science playground for children aged 5+ and families. See virtual animals all around you and learn more as you explore and answer questions.
From 11am-2pm, come and meet two of the SciGround team and discover your new favourite science app! As a bonus, after trying the app feel free to ask the team any questions you and your children have about any science topic – we will do our best to answer.
To use SciGround, families will need to bring their own device. SciGround is currently available on Apple devices which support augmented reality (iPhone 6S or newer, iPad 2017 or iPad Pro).
This ‘Come and Try’ Day is part of a pilot of SciGround in partnership with Wollondilly Shire Council. The pilot runs from 22 February to 22 April 2018.
