Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Heart Health Check Tour
Fri, Aug. 2, 2019 9:00am — 4:00pm
Tahmoor Town Centre
The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Heart Health Check Tour will be in Tahmoor on 2 August 2019.
Heart disease is the single-largest cause of fatalities of all Australians and, along with stroke, is the largest single-attributable cost to the health care system – with annual expenditure of approximately $12 billion.
In the South Western Sydney alone, heart disease accounted for some 4916 hospitalisations in 2017/2018.
The aim of the Heart Health Check Tour is to encourage the community to take a step towards better heart health by getting screened for three key risk factors: blood pressure; blood sugar; and blood pressure.
To date, one-third of the 70,000 people that have been screened have been able to reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke by understanding the risks specific to them. The Heart Health Check Service has previously tested in the South Western Sydney area and referred 30% of participants for follow up due to having a risk factor outside the recommended range.
If detected early, risk factors can be mitigated, and the potential onset of heart disease can be prevented. The check is non-invasive, only takes 10 minutes and results are immediate.
