WALTON STREET CARPARK OPENS WITH 235 NEW PARKING SPACES FOR PICTON

Wollondilly Shire Council has officially opened the new Walton Street Carpark in Picton, delivering a major boost to parking capacity in the town centre and supporting the growing needs of the community.

The multi-level facility provides more than 235 parking spaces, including accessible parking on the ground floor and additional spaces on the rooftop level. With this carpark open, there are now over 200 more car parking spaces in Picton than before the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct project began in 2020.

The project is jointly funded with $5 million from the NSW Government’s State Voluntary Planning Agreement (SVPA) Funding Program and Council’s development contributions.

Mayor Matt Gould said the new car park is an important piece of infrastructure that will support Picton’s future while respecting its character.

“There is now more car parking in Picton than we have ever seen before, supporting local residents and businesses alike in this beautiful town.”

“As Wollondilly continues to grow, we need to make sure our towns and villages have the infrastructure to keep pace with the needs of visitors, workers and our community,” Mayor Gould said.

“This new facility will make it easier for people to access Picton’s services and businesses, while supporting the amenity that make the town such a special place.”

“Council is proud to have added more than 200 additional car parking spaces to the Picton town centre as part of our investment in the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct, with major facilities like the Performing Arts Centre and Wollondilly Civic Centre that add hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy.”

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said,

“This project is another strong example of the NSW Government empowering councils with funding to deliver important community infrastructure.

“The upgraded carpark will ease parking congestion and support local businesses by encouraging more people to visit Picton’s vibrant town centre.”

The Walton Street Carpark is a key part of the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct and will support the Wollondilly Civic Centre which has recently been completed.
