Appin Road Petition

At last night’s Council meeting, Mayor Cr Simon Landow tabled the petition lodged at the Community Forum held on Monday 9 May 2016. The petition withalmost 7000 signatures was presented from residents and motorists calling for urgent action to address safety concerns on Appin Road.
“Council is deeply concerned regarding the safety of Appin Road. Council will write to the NSW Premier, Mike Baird and Minister for Roads, The Hon. Duncan John Gay, MLC, for their most urgent consideration. We will write to the Mayors of Campbelltown and Wollongong seeking their support on this issue as well. ” said Mayor, Clr Simon Landow.
“Since the increase in fatalities on Appin Road, our residents have been calling for further safety improvements. We will continue to lobby the State Government on behalf of our residents for a safer Appin Road. I will also be approaching Federal Members to see if there is any assistance they can provide” Mayor Landow said.
Appin Road passes through Wollondilly, Campbelltown and Wollongong Local Government areas. According to the RMS, an average of 10,000 vehicles travel on Appin Road each day.
“Our Community and Councillors have worked tirelessly so that this issue remains high on the agenda of those who can provide further funding.” said General Manager Luke Johnson.
“The upgrades on Picton Road have improved the safety on this road and we hope to see the same happen on Appin Road.” he said
