The founder of leading Australian butter company Pepe Saya, Mr Pierre Issa has been announced as Wollondilly’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2018.
The successful businessman and butter entrepreneur will be attending celebrations on 26 January in Picton’s Botanic Gardens as a special guest.
Pierre Issa started the Pepe Saya Butter Company in November 2010 after identifying a gap in the Australia butter market. At the time, chefs and food lovers were all importing butter from Europe. Mr Issa started out with the aim to provide Australians with high quality and exceptional tasting local butter. The brand’s first block of butter was sold at Carriageworks in Sydney’s Eveleigh, at the Saturday markets.
The Pepe Saya brand has expanded rapidly, with products available in shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels, caterers and racecourses nationwide. Pepe’s handmade Australian cultured butter is also now used on all Qantas International and Domestic business and first class flights.
Pepe Saya is committed to using local suppliers an only uses the best local milk, cream and salts within Australia. A team of 20 “butter masters” churn by hand 10,000 litres of cream in an average week to create not only the signature round Cultured Butter but also Crème Fraiche, Buttermilk, Mascarpone, Ghee and Truffle Butter products.
Mayor Judith Hannan said, “We are excited to have Pierre Issa as our Australia Day ambassador. He is a great example of a successful home-grown businessman who has recognised the quality of Australian produce and built his brand on that.”
Australia Day celebrations will be on from 8am-12pm on 26 January 2018 in the Picton Botanical Gardens, with plenty of free activities including a BBQ breakfast and lunch.
