Bee Aware Workshop
Posted on: 15.02.2016
Wollondilly Shire Council will be hosting a seminar and environmental art workshop on the mysterious life of native bees. Megan Halcroft, Environmental Educator and native bee specialist, will provide a 3 hour workshop to help participants understand the value of native bees to biodiversity, food production and food security. The workshop aims to strengthen understanding and engagement in local communities through education and citizen science approaches to achieve long term sustainability in local neighbourhoods, schools and communities.
Participants will have the opportunity to work with artists Celeste Coucke and Ana Pollak to translate the insights gained from the environmental seminar into a beautifully crafted artificial 'Bee Hotel' artwork to be located in the Picton Botanic Gardens. Members of the community will get hands-on experience in clay and wood working craft forms to construct suitable habitats that will be integrated into the bee hotel.
This workshop will be held on Saturday the 12th March commencing at 8.30am. It will be held at the Wollondilly Community Nursery (behind Wollondilly Animal Shelter) Wonga Road, Picton. Cost is $45 per person.
