Blaxland Bridge Repairs - Modifications to Works Schedule
Posted on: 24.03.2017
Wollondilly Shire Council wishes to advise that the award of the contract for the Blaxland Crossing Bridge Bearing Replacement project is now scheduled for late April 2017. Due to unforeseen circumstances Council has had to delay issuing a contract to a tenderer.
Council is currently clarifying a critical technical component of the project based on the submitted tenders and, once clarified, Council can award the contract to a tenderer. Please be assured that Council are working towards a better outcome for those that use the road and for those that live and work near the area. We are reviewing the tenders so that we can choose a tender that can potentially reduce the amount of road closures needed and ultimately cause fewer disruptions during the repair works.
Michael Malone, Director Infrastructure & Environment said,
“Undertaking additional technical assessments are a necessary part of completing an appropriate tender process for a complex project and it will minimise the chances of significant issues during the bearing replacement works.
The delay in considering the tenders will unfortunately also delay the start of the fabrication process for the replacement bearings as this cannot start until the tender is accepted
We now expect the on-site works to be completed by September, with the removal of all traffic management systems and testing by October 2017.”
