Call for Wollondilly Residents to join the Garage Sale Trail
Posted on: 08.10.2019
Wollondilly residents are being urged to join the nationwide community and sustainability event ‘Garage Sale Trail’ on the weekend of Saturday 19 October and Sunday 20 October.
Last year the big weekend of decluttering was enthusiastically embraced by Wollondilly locals, and Council is hoping to have even more people take part in 2019.
Registrations are free and open to households, schools, community groups and anyone who is up for a weekend of fun.
Manager Environmental Outcomes Alex Stengl said, “This is a fun way for Council to encourage reuse and buying secondhand.”
“Why buy new when you can get quality secondhand items, reduce your impact and raise money all in one go?”
Thanks to the support of over 140 councils nationally, in 2018 there were more than 15,000 garage sales over the weekend with over 400,000 Australians hitting the streets to browse over 2 million secondhand items.
The average household made over $300, community groups raised an average of $650 and schools made a very healthy $1500. More than 500kgs of material was sold and redistributed at each garage sale.
Every garage sale has a unique style and gets a sale page that provides clues to who's involved, what’s on offer and other relevant information. Likewise, shoppers can search for sales, items of interest and make their own trail of favourite sales to checkout.
Participants can register now online at garagesaletrail.com.au or contact Council’s Environment Team on 4677 1100 for more information.
