Commemorating Wollondilly’s Fallen Veterans

Wollondilly Shire Council has established a Commerative Working Group to assist in commemorating Wollondilly’s Fallen Veterans when naming roads, groves of trees, parks, open spaces and sportsgrounds.
The Working Group consists of representatives from local groups including: Picton Thirlmere Bargo RSL Sub Branch, Picton ANZAC Committee, Warragamba Community ANZAC Committee and Council staff.
Chaired by Cr Blair Briggs, the Working Group meets monthly to compile research findings and to make recommendations to the Geographical Names Board of NSW (GNB) for the naming of new roads, places and infrastructure.
Cr Briggs said “Wollondilly’s veterans made the ultimate sacrifice ensuring we could live the lives we do, and this naming project demonstrates our community’s gratitude. I encourage community members to participate in the nomination process”
The Working Group is seeking nominations from the local community to commemorate a relative or loved one who died in action overseas during conflict.
The nominee must have been a resident of Wollondilly at the time of enlistment and the following details must be provided: Full Name, Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Date and Place of Death, Letter of Consent from Family (where possible), Contact details of Family and the Nominator’s Name and Contact.
The Commemorative Nomination Form is available from Council’s website , Council’s Administration Building, Picton Library or by calling Barbara Weber on 4677 9736.
