Concept Plan for Development of Picton’s Civic Precinct Unveiled
Posted on: 03.07.2019
Wollondilly Shire Council has progressed to the second stage of the Wollondilly Community, Cultural and Civic Precinct project and is now seeking feedback on the Draft Concept Plan.
During Stage 1 of the consultation process, the community and other stakeholders provided valuable input that was used to develop the Concept Plan for the Precinct, which will be located in Picton.
The highest rating responses for what should be included in the Precinct were outdoor space, such as a courtyard or village green, and a large multipurpose space for community and cultural events.
Respondents also identified the need for conference facilities, meeting space for groups and classes, and a space where young children could learn and play.
The idea of creating a cultural centre in Wollondilly has been well supported, with locals expressing that they shouldn’t have to go to Wollongong, the Blue Mountains or the City to see a show.
Acting CEO Michael Malone said, “This will be a Shire wide community asset and a focus for local community, cultural and creative activity.”
“It has been great to hear the initial thoughts of our community members and we hope we have been able to capture their ideas in the Draft Concept Plan.”
“We are aiming for a centre that supports and promotes the strengths of the community, with opportunities for arts and culture, innovation and technology, learning and business, health and wellbeing,” he said.
Following its finalisation, the Concept Plan will form part of Council’s Liveability Program funding application.
Residents, businesses and other stakeholders can find out more about the project on Council’s Your Say website and have the opportunity to share their views through the community survey, which is open until 16 July.
