Council to make arrangements for a By-election after Councillor resignation
Posted on: 20.07.2017
Council has received a letter of resignation from Councillor Ray Law which will take effect immediately.
Mayor for Wollondilly, Judith Hannan, said “Ray was first elected to Council in 2012 and has been an active Councillor and a tireless advocate for the community. I wish him well in his future endeavours and would like to thank him for the time he has served at Council.”
“Whilst it is sad to see him go, Wollondilly’s other Councillors have expressed strong support for the management and direction of the organisation.”
General Manager, Luke Johnson, said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ray for his contribution to the community and wish him all the very best for the future.”
Arrangements will now be made to conduct a by-election to fill the Councillor vacancy. Luke Johnson has already written a letter to the Office of Local Government and the NSW Electoral Commission to advise them of the vacancy.
The NSW Electoral Commission will run the upcoming By-election.
In accordance with the Local Government Act, a By-election must be held within 3 months of the notification to the NSW Electoral Commission.
During this time it is business as usual for Council. Further details on the By-election will be released once confirmed by the NSW Electoral Commission.
