Council Welcomes Reopening of Warragamba Dam Viewing Platform
Posted on: 09.03.2018
Wollondilly Shire Council has welcomed the reopening of the 18th Street viewing platform at Warragamba Dam to the public today.
The viewing platform was closed many years ago due to the impact of 13 tonnes of asbestos being dumped across the ten hectare Sydney Water property.
The site has undergone a complex remediation process and all safety and environmental checks have been completed.
Mayor Judith Hannan said, “Wollondilly Council appreciates the commitment and hard work of WaterNSW and Sydney Water to make the 18th Street viewing platform area safe and ready to reopen.”
“The viewing platform provides both tourism and economic benefits to Warragamba, providing the public with a greater connection to the Dam and bringing visitors into the township,” she said.
“I would like to acknowledge the assistance given by Councillor Matt Gould and everyone who was involved in achieving this great outcome for Warragamba.”
