Wollondilly Shire Council and the Federal Government are working together to provide upgrades to the Bargo Skate Park, including new ramps, a half pipe and grind rails.
The Federal Government has pledged $20,000 to the project in Round 3 of the Stronger Communities Program, which will be matched with another $20,000 from Council.
Mayor Judith Hannan, Councillor Robert Khan and Federal Member for Hume, Angus Taylor inspected the skate park this week to see where the additional equipment would be located.
Mayor Judith Hannan said, “Council has received a number of written requests from young people wanting us to install more items at the skate park.”
“Facilities such as these offer a great meeting space for young people and parents which enhances social connectivity and encourages physical activity,” she said.
Skateboard riding, scooter riding and BMX riding has evolved since the installation of the original skate park and the upgrade will address the changing needs of users.
Once the funding becomes available, Council will oversee the project with work on site expected to commence by the end of the 2017-18 Financial Year.
