Maintenance in Council's Towns & Villages

Posted on: 03.05.2017

A recent incident involving a ride-on mower on a road side verge has resulted in Council undertaking a review of its safety procedures.

The review had identified a potential issue with the capacity of some of our ride-on mowers to safely operate on some sloped areas, especially when the slopes are wet from rain or dew.

In order to protect the public and our team members from potential harm, we have temporarily stopped the use of ride on mowers on steep slopes.

Michael Malone, Director Infrastructure and Environment said: “We are currently investigating options for mowing machinery that can be safely used on steep slopes. However, in the interim there may be some areas that are left un-mowed for longer than normal.

Council staff are committed to maintaining our towns and villages and always endeavour to deliver high quality maintenance in our townships, however we ask for understanding from the community while we work to resolve these issues.”
