Wollondilly Shire Council will be hosting a FREE Fishing Competition for children under 15, at the Picton Botanic Gardens to celebrate National Families Week 2016. The aim of National Families Week is to celebrate the vital role that families play in community wellbeing. This year’s theme is ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities ‘.
When: Saturday 21 May 2016
Time: 9.30am to 12pm (registrations from 8.30am)
Where: PictonBotanic Gardens Duck Pond, Regreme Rd Entrance
The 2016 theme highlights the important role that families play as the central building block of our communities and that community wellbeing is enhanced by family wellbeing. National Families Week is a time to celebrate with your family, make contact with your extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. It is a time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life. Let’s take the time to reflect on the critical role that families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing children, especially as they grow.
The Mayoral Fishing Competition is also a way of raising awareness of carp as a pest located within the Pond. The Competition is designed to promote the regeneration of the aquatic habitat within the Botanic Gardens and to foster a sense of responsibility for the local environment.
The children who enter must have adult supervision throughout the day. The adult must sign the registration form before the children can fish. Council encourages all children to wear appropriate floatation devices during the competition. You will need to bring your own bait which can include corn, bread or cheese and will need to supply their own fishing gear which should include a trace.
