New Chess Group starting at Picton Library

Posted on: 19.02.2018

Due to popular demand, Picton Library is launching a new chess group with the first games set to start on Saturday 24 February.

All ages and abilities are invited to join this relaxed and informal group which will be held in the library’s View Room from 9.00am to 12.00pm every Saturday.

Attendees will be able to try the novelty chess sets at the library including the ‘giant’ set, Harry Potter, Simpsons and Batman themed sets.

The group is a way for chess fans to meet likeminded individuals and improve their skills. Prospective players can pop in for game whenever they are available during each session.

Library Services Team Leader Gail Dunn said, “Chess has many long term benefits, such as raising your IQ, increasing problem solving skills and improving memory.”

“This is the first time a chess group has run in the library since before the move and refurbishment, so it’s a great opportunity to come in and have a friendly game.”
