An enviable lifestyle of historic villages, modern living, rural lands and bush. That’s a quick snapshot of Wollondilly 2040, Council’s newly adopted 20 year vision for land use in the Shire.

Wollondilly 2040 has now received the green light from the Greater Sydney Commission, bringing Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement into force as the official land use vision for the Shire.

Wollondilly 2040 is the product of constructive collaboration between the State and Local government and was created through extensive consultation with the Wollondilly community.

Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “Setting a vision for the Shire’s land use and growth is about a lot more than housing. It’s also about jobs, agriculture, infrastructure, heritage, the environment and our towns and villages.”

“We’ve heard loud and clear from our community about what they want, including clearly defined and protected villages and a rural landscape to enjoy,” he said.

“Our vision is to enhance all that is special about our Shire and also embrace a bright future, one that will be prosperous and resilient for all of us to enjoy.”

Wollondilly 2040 identifies our new town at Wilton as a future strategic centre for the Shire, with new job opportunities, regional facilities and greater advantages for healthcare and education.

The Mayor noted that Council now has an opportunity to shape the direction to get the best possible outcome for Wilton, creating great livable places and securing high quality infrastructure that’s delivered in a timely fashion.

“Our local economy will leverage the opportunities of the Western Parkland City and the Aerotropolis, creating more local jobs and benefitting from greater investment in tourism, industry, agriculture and the creative arts,” he said.

“We’ve started work on our priorities and understanding the needs of our community. Technical studies into housing needs, employment lands and a rural lands strategy are already under way.”

“Wollondilly 2040 provides a great foundation for our Shire and I would like to thank everyone who gave us feedback and got involved in the process.”
