Night Roadworks Scheduled for Woodbridge Road
Posted on: 30.10.2019
Wollondilly Council will begin roadworks at Woodbridge Road, Menangle from the evening of Sunday 10 November as part of its Capital Works program.
With a budget of $1.3m, a full width road reconstruction will be undertaken by Council’s contractor on 1300m of the road, spread across two sections.
The work will be carried out over a three week period between 6pm and 6am with an expected completion date of 5 December 2019. Work shifts will generally be from Sunday to Thursday night.
Acting Manager Works, Paul Draper said the roadworks would be carried out at night to try and avoid disruption to motorists and residents.
“Woodbridge Road is very busy during the day, so to minimise the impact on the community, we have made the decision to complete the work at night.”
“We are particularly mindful of the effect that the work will have on homes directly adjacent to the worksite. To limit the noise late at night, the majority of the heavy machinery work will be scheduled for the early hours of the evening between 6pm and 9pm,” he said.
During the work shifts a temporary road closure will be in place and traffic will be detoured around the site onto Finns Road. Woodbridge Road will be open to traffic at all other times.
The existing road pavement will be overlayed with asphaltic concrete with a total of approximately 6000 tonnes of asphalt being placed.
Mr Draper said, “As the work will involve some disruption, we encourage those driving through the area at night to make appropriate plans, such as leaving a few minutes earlier.”
“If motorists have any questions or special needs they can speak to the friendly traffic controllers on site.”
Council will be distributing flyers to nearby residents and businesses and will install large electronic message boards to notify those who use the route.
Woodbridge Road was nominated for work in the 2019/20 financial year as part of Council’s five year roadworks program. It is a main thoroughfare in the Wollondilly Shire, particularly for heavy vehicles, carrying approximately 2000 vehicles per day.
