Trax to the Future – A Rail Symposium
Posted on: 10.11.2017
Council was pleased to host ‘Trax to the Future – A Rail Symposium’ on Thursday 9 November. Special guests included Former Deputy Prime Minister, Tim Fischer; Government Representatives and Industry Stakeholders. Participants highlighted the importance of rail as a critical element of Wollondilly’s future transport infrastructure framework.
The Symposium was a great opportunity to hear the latest thinking on a range of topics including electrification of the southern rail line to Picton, provision of rail to Wilton New Town, the High Speed Rail concept and the South West Illawarra Rail line.
Improving rail connectivity and services is critically important to South West Sydney and particularly to Wollondilly’s future. We can help support the Government’s policies for housing delivery, jobs, education and health, but the success of these rely heavily on RAIL to bring it all together.
We are seeking a commitment from Federal and State Government for public transport, in particular electrified rail, to support our growing community.
Mayor, Judith Hannan said:
“We will use the Symposium to continue the fight for improved rail services to connect Wollondilly to the major destinations of Sydney CBD, Parramatta, Campbelltown, Liverpool, the Western Sydney Airport and the Illawarra”.
“Wollondilly Shire (and more specifically the Wilton Priority Growth Area) is strategically located to play a pivotal role in the future rail network of the region and the State. It is important that we continue to advocate for improved rail for future generations” General Manager, Luke Johnson
