Warragamba RV Friendly Site Opens to the Public

The newly completed Recreation Vehicle (RV) short stay area at the Warragamba Recreation Reserve is now open to the public on a one year trial basis.
Mayor Judith Hannan said, “The short stay area aims to provide additional tourism opportunities in Warragamba and help to strengthen the local economy by giving visitors the option of free overnight accommodation.”
“This site is the first of its kind in our area and the trial will help inform a Shire-wide RV friendly strategy,” she said.
People can stay overnight, for a maximum of two nights, in their self-contained motorhomes, caravans and campervans. A self-contained RV has the capacity for holding fresh, grey and black water within the confines of the vehicle.
Access to the eight parking bays is via Farnsworth Ave, with an automatic boom gate installed at the entrance of the Reserve car park. Parking is permitted in the designated areas only.
The site will benefit from the existing RV dump point located within the Reserve and potable water is available.
It is a short walk or drive to the Warragamba Shopping precinct as well as the playground, picnic area and BBQ facilities.
The boom gate will operate on a timer, on the same timing of existing gates and toilet facilities that are currently closed by Council’s security contractor.
The gate will move to the open position at 5:30am. The gate will move into the closed position at 5:30pm in the winter months and 8:00pm in the summer months.
Those wishing to access the area after hours will need to use the intercom on the left hand side of the road. By pressing the # (hash) button, the intercom will call through to Council’s after-hours service who will check and see if there are parking spaces available.
If there is a vacancy, they will take the caller’s details, mobile phone number, registration number and intended night’s stay.
The mobile phone number of the caller will be registered into the boom gate so that when the caller rings the “gate” it will open and a confirmation number will be sent to the boom gate.
When the gate is closed, vehicles that are inside the Short Stay area will be able to approach the gate to leave as it is on a magnetic sensor.
