Wollondilly celebrates Youth Week at ‘Branch Out’ Pool Party
Posted on: 03.04.2019
Wollondilly Shire Council has been working closely with a group of dedicated local young people to make sure this year’s National Youth Week event is one to remember.
The Wollondilly ‘Branch Out’ Pool Party will be held from 3pm to 7:30pm on Saturday 13 April at the Wollondilly Leisure Centre and is free to everyone between the ages of 12 and 24.
The event aims to raise awareness about wellbeing in the community by having a range of interactive activities to bring young people together in a drug and alcohol free environment.
Madison Hope, a member of Youth Week Working Group said, “After the launch of our first Branch Out Festival in 2018, the Working Group has been keen to put on a bigger and better event for 2019.”
“We've really been stepping up our online strategy for promoting this year’s event, for two reasons; social media is where most of our target guests hear about events, and we are also trying to reduce our environmental footprint as a committee.”
“The idea first started when a long time committee member suggested we stop using paper at our meetings and utilise our phones. This simple idea evolved into creating an eco-friendly focused event,” said Madison.
“We have plants to give away, composting bins for food waste, and we are asking guests to BYO drink bottles.”
Madison noted, “We have been working super hard behind the scenes of the event and can't wait for the local community to have access to a great Youth Week event without having to venture out of the area to attend it!”
The day will be action packed, with the chance to try Bubble Soccer, entry to the Leisure Centre, sports activities, BBQ, DJ and an outdoor screening of Shrek at sunset. All activities will be free.
Places for the movie are limited, so attendees are encouraged to pick up their wrist band on arrival at the Leisure Centre to secure their place.
