Wollondilly Library invites you to their “Paw’ty Launch”
Posted on: 26.09.2016
The Paws ‘n’ Tales Program Launch will take place at the Wollondilly Library on Friday the 30th September at 10.30am till 11.30am in the View Room. There will be cake and you can meet some of our puppies. The launch is open to all ages and is free of charge.
Paws ‘n’ Tales is a free reading program for children aged 4-8 years of age based on the premise that dogs provide a non-judgemental and fun reading environment for children to develop their literacy, confidence and health.
The program officially starts on the 13th October in the library and will provide 1-2-1 sessions for children, with a 20 minute duration, every week for a school term.
The program is supported by Paws Pet Therapy at Thirlmere, a pet therapy charity that recruits, trains and supports volunteers and their dogs in nursing homes, palliative care and cancer centres. The teams undertake the Paws Pet Therapy training course and the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) course as well as attending a training and assessment day before they are able to undertake visits.
The two teams who will be taking the sessions at Picton are Lynda Moon and her Golden Retriever Mishka and Maria Morton and her handsome Puggle RJ. These teams have been sponsored by local business and the Wollondilly Senior Citizens Association.
