At Monday night’s meeting Council resolved to accept the resignation of Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Luke Johnson as of 30 June 2019. This marks the end of a long and rewarding working relationship.

Mr Johnson said that he is looking forward to taking a break and enjoying some personal time with his family and exploring some new opportunities.

Mayor, Councillor Deeth expressed appreciation on behalf of the Council for Mr Johnson’s 10 years of loyal service to the community and dedication to the organisation. He noted some of Mr Johnson’s significant contributions to the Shire including:

  • Establishing a financially secure future for Council and achieving Fit for the Future status, ensuring Wollondilly was not the subject of the State Government’s council merger considerations

  • Leading Council’s negotiations regarding the proposed new town at Wilton

  • Enabling significant increases in allocations towards our capital budget for the renewal of our ageing assets, including this year’s $20 million budget

  • Implementing a broad range of organisational improvements with a strong focus on probity and governance

  • Chairing the Wollondilly Health Alliance which is now being used as the model for the Western Sydney Health Alliance

  • Chairing the Local Emergency Management Committee and leading Council’s emergency and recovery works following the 2016 Picton storm

  • Ensuring Wollondilly’s inclusion as one of eight councils in the Western Sydney City Deal, the first Australian/State/Local Government agreement in NSW

  • Securing $15 million under the Liveability Program to allow the accelerated delivery of liveability improvements across the Shire as a part of the Western Sydney City Deal

Mr Johnson thanked staff and wished them, Councillors and the community much success and said, “I also feel very positive about what we have been able to achieve and I know that we are well placed for a bright future.”

“Together we have built a very solid base for the future and I know that the staff and Councillors will work together to continue to deliver great services and community connections to all Wollondilly residents”.

“I have no doubt that Council will continue to focus on the future and work to provide exceptional service to residents”.

On behalf of the Council, Mayor Matthew Deeth thanked Mr Johnson for his substantial contribution and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.

Michael Malone will be the acting Chief Executive Officer.
