Kicking off at 8am with a Free BBQ breakfast of bacon & egg rolls and tea and coffee, Wollondilly will welcome 9 new citizens during the Citizenship Ceremony and will recognise the valuable contributions local residents make to our community through the Australia Day Awards.
The Australia Day and Citizenship Ceremony commences at 9am with an official flag parade by the Wollondilly Veterans and welcome by Mayor Cr Judith Hannan.
The Mayoral Fishing Competition will be held down by the duck pond from 8am till 12pm and is for children under 15 years. It is designed to foster a sense of responsibility for the local environment and assist in the regeneration of the aquatic habitat within the Botanic Gardens. Participants must have adult supervision at all times.
Everyone who attends the Australia Day celebrations can enter the lucky draw with up to $1000 worth of prizes to be won. Derk’s Pet and Rural and Khan’s Supa IGA have donated one $500 voucher each. Simply complete the entry form and place it in the barrel at the main stage. The winners will be drawn on the day, you can pick up an entry form at either Derk’s Pet & Rural, Picton and Thirlmere or at Khan’s Supa IGA stores, Picton or Bargo.
Free activities including face painting, a jumping castle, snake man, pony rides, arts and crafts, sports activities, a roving magician and a range of other stall holders will surround Hume Oval until 12 noon.
Wollondilly’s Australia Day Ambassador Sam Cawthorn, a well-known Motivational Speaker, Author and Philanthropist will assist to present this year’s Australia Day Awards and will address the audience about his experiences and the importance of Australia Day.
