A Plan for Growing Sydney, released in December 2014, is the NSW Government’s plan for the future of the Sydney Metropolitan Area over the next 20 years.
The Plan provides key directions and actions to guide Sydney’s productivity, environmental management, and liveability – including the delivery of housing, employment, infrastructure and open space.
District Plans are a fundamental way to manage Sydney’s smart growth. They are the link between the State Government’s Greater Sydney Region Plan – A Plan for Growing Sydney – and councils’ Local Environmental Plans.
Draft District Plans for Greater Sydney's six districts have been developed by the Greater Sydney Commission to ensure well-coordinated, integrated and effective planning for land use, transport and infrastructure.
The draft District Plans set out the opportunities, priorities and actions and provide the means by which the Greater Sydney Region Plan, A Plan for Growing Sydney can be put into action at a local level.
They outline how the Government will make decisions on public spaces, community facilities, housing, jobs, transport options, schools and hospitals to meet the needs of communities across Greater Sydney.
Wollondilly is a part of the South West District. This is Sydney’s fastest growing District, where urban lifestyles meet rural living and residents enjoy the best of both worlds. It’s rich in Aboriginal, colonial and migrant history and heritage and is one of the most culturally diverse communities in Australia.
Information about the district including the draft District Plan can be found on the Greater Sydney Commission website.
The first ever draft District Plans, one for each of Greater Sydney's six Districts, were placed on public exhibition in November 2016 finishing March 31, 2017 with the GSC calling for submissions on each plan.
Council has made a formal submission on the draft District Plan. All other submissions can be found on the GSC website.
