Expressions of Interest – Community Representative

Nominations close 3 January 2018 COB 5.00pm

Wollondilly Shire Council is setting up an IHAP and is seeking nominations for community representatives to sit on the panel.

Each council must have a community representative and an alternate from each Ward in their local government area.  Wollondilly Shire Council currently has three (3) Wards and is looking for two community representatives from each Ward.

The role of a community representative is a three year paid part-time role.

Community representatives on the panel will be required to contribute constructively to panel discussions, attend regular meetings and help determine applications for new developments in Wollondilly.  They should have a good understanding of planning legislation, an ability to read and conceptualise architectural plans and be able to communicate complex technical matters in a clear and concise manner.

The IHAP will be the determining authority for applications:

  • with cost of works between $5 million and $30 million
  • for which the applicant or owner is Council, a Councillor or their family, Council staff, or a State or Federal member of Parliament
  • that receive 10 or more objections
  • involving Voluntary Planning Agreements
  • exceeding a development standard by more than 10%
  • associated with a high risk of corruption
  • that are modified to meet the above criteria.

It is anticipated that meetings will be held once a month or 12 times a year.  Duration of the meetings will vary between 2 – 3 hours with additional time required to read reports and carry out site inspections.

The rate of pay for the community representatives will be set by the NSW Government. These details not yet been provided (as of 5 December 2017).

Property Developers, Real Estate Agents and current Councillors are not eligible to apply
