On 1st July 2016, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started to be rolled out across Wollondilly.
The NDIS replaces a disability system that was unfair and inefficient with a new system that is world-leading, equitable and suitable. The NDIS will mean peace of mind for every Australian – for anyone who has or might acquire a disability.
The NDIS will provide all Australians under the age of 65 with a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live an ordinary life. As an insurance scheme, the NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life.
National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) Chairman Bruce Bonyhady, said “For the first time, Australians will have access to a national scheme that will support people with disability, providing certainty, consistency and equity.”
NDIA Chief Executive Officer David Bowen, said the Agency was ready to deliver the life-changing reform.
The NDIS is being introduced in stages around the country over the next three years to ensure it is successful and sustainable.
NDIS have developed a range of new resources, including factsheets and videos, to help you understand and get ready for the NDIS.
