Finns Road Night Works - Carrols Road to Navigation Creek
As part of Council’s 2020/21 Capital Works program we will shortly be reconstructing Finns Road from Carrols Road to Navigation Creek. This section of the road represents the last section of Finns Road to be reconstructed.
Finns road carries over 4000 vehicles per day, so to limit disruption we are undertaking this work at night. During the shift, Finns road will be closed to through traffic, which will be detoured on to Woodbridge. Residents and emergency vehicles will have access to the worksite - the closure is for through traffic only.
Council will be undertaking full width road reconstruction on a 700m section of Finns Rd from Navigation Creek to Carrolls Rd.
The work will be carried out at night, starting from 6.00pm on Monday 23 May 2021 (weather permitting).
During the shift a temporary road closure will be in place with through traffic only being detoured onto Woodbridge Rd. Note this closure applies to through traffic only, emergency vehicles will have priority of access throughout this period and residents will still be able to access properties within the worksite.
8 shifts from Sunday 23 May to Thursday 27 May, then on Sunday 30 May to Tuesday 1 June from 6.00pm-5.00am.
The existing road pavement will be overlayed with asphaltic concrete. In total approx. 4,000 tonnes of asphalt will be placed. After the works are completed the shoulders will be constructed during the day.
As the work will involve some disruption, it is important that you are aware of the roadwork and make appropriate plans (e.g. leave a few minutes earlier). Council will distribute flyers to nearby residents / businesses and will install large electronic message boards on 3 May, two weeks before works are due to commence. In addition, our contractor will send out a second notification to residents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are we doing this at night?
This section of road is very busy during the day with heavy traffic through this road. Completing work at night will limit disruption to motorists and residents.
Council is mindful of the impact that this work will have on family homes directly adjacent to the worksite. To manage the impact of noise during the night, most of the heavy machinery work will be scheduled for the early hours of the evening between 6.00pm and 9.00pm.
Why are we reconstructing this road?
Since 2015, Council has committed additional funding towards addressing our road maintenance backlog. Our five year construction program considers factors including the condition of the road, traffic safety issues, the most suitable time to intervene, the best methods to use, future development, traffic levels on the road, and other competing work priorities throughout the Shire.
This section of Finns Rd is the only remaining section to be reconstructed with other sections having been completed in previous years. Finns Rd is a main thoroughfare to Camden/Campbelltown and carries over 4,000 vehicles per day. It was nominated for work in the 2020/21 financial year as part of Council’s five year roadworks program.
How disruptive will the work be?
Limiting disruption is something Council considers when choosing how and when roadwork will be done. People travelling through a worksite at night may experience delays of a couple of minutes. If motorists have any questions or special needs they can speak to the friendly traffic controllers on site and efforts will be made to work with them to address any issues that arise.
