Background
The large rain event in February this year which caused the landslips on Big Hill Rd has also caused erosion along a section of the down slope embankment.
Investigations have discovered that if left untreated the site would further deteriorate and pose significant risk of failure and hazard to road users. Council, with the assistance of geotechnical engineers, has been monitoring the site while developing a long term solution to remediate the area.
Details
The work will see a pile wall and soil nail treatment installed. The pile wall will be founded on bed rock to resist rotational ground movement while the soil nails will act to anchor ground slippage.
Once complete the road will return to normal operation.
