The Project
Wollondilly Shire experienced record rainfall throughout March and April of 2022 during what had already been a wet summer. The heavy rainfall triggered geotechnical instability across the shire which caused significant damage to Council road infrastructure through landslips and rock falls.
Council is in the process of repairing road damage sites through assistance of NSW Disaster Assistance funding.
Broughton Pass is open to alternating traffic, with traffic lights in place to manage the one way section of the road.
Broughton Pass suffered upslope rock falls and a downslope landslide. The rock fall site has been cleared and rock scaling works undertaken to reduce the risk of further mobilisations.
The landslide site has been cleared and field investigations undertaken to design a retaining structure which will allow the road to be reconstructed and opened to normal traffic movements.
The road will be under contraflow traffic management until the landslide has been remediated. Please take care when driving through the site and allow additional travel time.
