Wollondilly Shire Council’s draft Community Strategic Plan – Wollondilly 2040 and other supporting documents outline a refreshed focus and vision for the Shire as the new Council hits its stride; with residents invited to check in and provide their feedback during the upcoming public exhibition period.
The community’s thoughts and aspirations have helped shape the updated Community Strategic Plan, which is the highest-level plan for Council, and is used to guide policy and service delivery.
Over recent years Council has delivered a strong program of reform, investing in infrastructure and services all across the Shire and transforming the business into a modern professional organisation that is able to play a lead role in shaping the future growth of the Shire.
The draft Delivery Program, Operational Plan and Budget show a continued investment into roads and infrastructure assets across the Shire as Council delivers important services and facilities to support the growing community, including a $84.6 million Capital Works program.
Mayor Matt Gould said, “From services and infrastructure to sustainability and growth, Council has sought to identify Wollondilly’s priorities for the future and we now want to check we are heading in the right direction.”
“Improving our roads continues to be our top priority and we will continue to push for the State Government to take responsibility for key major roads through our Shire including Remembrance Driveway, Silverdale Road, Menangle Road and Montpelier Drive, allowing us to focus our resources on local roads for our residents. We are also strongly advocating for the NSW Government to commit to the design and construction of the Picton Bypass.”
“There is increasing conversation around preserving and enhancing the character of the Shire while sustainably managing the growth and development we are seeing, particularly from our state mandated growth centres. Council is committed to protecting what we love and what makes us special; our unique villages and lifestyle within a truly beautiful natural landscape.”
“Our community wants vital infrastructure in place to meet the needs of the growing population, as well as local jobs, tourism and agribusiness to support our local economy. We’ll be continuing to campaign for the things we need like public transport, health facilities and schools.”
“Residents want to see further investment in our local infrastructure including new and upgraded community halls and sporting facilities. Work is already underway on a Ninja Warrior Course and Learn to Ride Track at Appin and new ovals at Picton Sportsground. Residents can look forward to new and refurbished community halls at Thirlmere, Oakdale and The Oaks, redevelopment of Warragamba Waterboard Oval including a great new multipurpose building, a new playground and recreation space at Redbank Reserve, a new carpark and improvements at Telopea Park, Buxton, as well as footpaths and cycleways all around the Shire.”
“As our residents and businesses continue to recover from the natural disasters of past years, community resilience and preparedness is something we will remain focused on.”
“This Council is listening to the people of Wollondilly, and we believe that our updated plans and focus areas reflect the key priorities of our community.”
“I’d encourage all our residents to take a moment to explore what’s proposed before 1 June 2025, and let us know if it reflects your priorities for Wollondilly’s future.”
