Council maintains cemeteries in the townships of Bargo, Picton and Thirlmere. All cemeteries cater for the interment of ashes and grave burials.
The Cemeteries Policy outlines the terms of management in all operational cemeteries and the expected conduct of those entering the cemeteries is in accordance with reasonable and practical standards.
Council is a licensed cemetery operator (Cemeteries and Crematoria NSW) authorised to manage and maintain these cemeteries. Our commitment is to provide respectful, well-maintained spaces for the community while ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
Cemeteries & Crematoria NSW (CCNSW) changes from 1 July 2024.

Monumental Plots allow for a full gravesite surround with the approval of Council. Grave surrounds require installation to be carried out by a certified Monumental Mason.
After a burial & over time, the ground in and around a grave will settle as the soil naturally compacts. This is a normal process and can be affected by weather conditions like heavy rain or drought.
The topping up of graves after burial is overseen by Council and is included in the fees paid at the time of interment. Our cemetery team monitors and maintains the grounds to ensure graves are levelled appropriately as the soil settles.
