Listening to Community Steers Direction for Wollondilly
It’s no secret that Wollondilly is a great place to live – a recent survey confirms that 93% of our residents rate their quality of life as ‘good’ to ‘excellent’ in Wollondilly Shire.
These are the headline results of Wollondilly Shire Council’s 2025 Community Satisfaction Survey.
This research is conducted annually, keeping Council up to date with community sentiment on a range of council services, facilities and community priorities – providing data, trends and direct feedback which informs decision-making.
It is one of the ways Council listens to the community in order to shape our direction and actions.
This year’s results also show overall satisfaction with Council remains strong and stable, with 81% of residents at least ‘somewhat satisfied’ with the performance of Council over the past 12 months, and 76% at least ‘somewhat satisfied’ with the performance of Councillors. (In both instances this means the residents selected ‘somewhat satisfied’, ‘satisfied’, or ‘very satisfied’.)
Top priorities were identified as roads, improved infrastructure to cater for growth, improved services and facilities (such as schools, hospitals, supermarkets) and traffic management.
The most valued aspects of living in the Shire were identified as the rural lifestyle, peacefulness and sense of community, natural environment, as well as proximity to the city and beaches.
Deputy Mayor Matthew Deeth said Council is tracking well in key areas that matter to the community, and also has an opportunity to focus on ways to further improve our services.
“We are making significant progress, and we are continuing to invest in our roads, our towns and villages, our recreation and sporting facilities,” Deputy Mayor Deeth said.
“We’re committed to improving service areas that need an uplift, and maintaining quality in the areas where performance is already strong,” he said.
“Looking forward, we have a plan to build on these results by maintaining our efforts regarding planning and development outcomes, improving the condition of our roads and footpaths, communicating and engaging with our community, and striving to provide an excellent customer service experience.”
When compared to similar Councils in a benchmarking cohort, Wollondilly’s scores were positive: Wollondilly’s score of 81% satisfied with Council’s performance compared favourably to the aggregated score from other Councils of 68%.
Similarly, Wollondilly’s score of 93% or residents rating quality of life as good to excellent compared favourably to an aggregated score of 85% for the other benchmark Councils.
The survey was conducted during February 2025 by an independent research company, via phone interview with a representative random sample of 407 respondents. This sample size provides a statistically reliable outcome with an error margin of plus or minus 5%.
