Community to have their say on Bargo Sportsground Master Plan
Posted on: 30.04.2025
Wollondilly Shire Council has endorsed the draft Bargo Sportsground Master Plan to go on public exhibition - the next step towards ensuring the sportsground remains a central hub for sport and recreation in the community for years to come.
The development of the Bargo Sportsground Master Plan began in August 2024, with the first phase of community consultation providing feedback that informed the approach. Council will now go back to the community to make sure the proposed Master Plan is on track.
Mayor Matt Gould said, “The Bargo Sportsground Master Plan represents a significant investment in the health and wellbeing of the Wollondilly community.”
“We have worked with the key user groups of the sportsground and the wider community to put together a plan that will transform the existing facilities into a vibrant, multi-use sports and recreation hub.”
The master planning process for the facility is aligned to funding received through the Tahmoor South Coal Project Planning Agreement, with $3,375,000 identified to commence implementation and allocated in accordance with the Planning Agreement up to 2033.
Council’s excellent Parks & Recreation team together with Otium Planning Group developed a staged Master Plan to guide the short, medium, and long-term provision of high-quality, local-level sport and recreation facilities at the Bargo site. They have completed a background report, initial community consultation and draft Master Plan.
The key improvements proposed in the Draft Master Plan are:
- Reconfiguration of the sporting fields to maximise playing surface area for a wide range of sports codes
- Moving the amenities building along the sports fields to make it easier to access and provide a much stronger relationship with the fields
- One-way traffic access and an exit in the west to enhance circulation and safety and limit the impact of traffic along residential streets
- An updated car park for improved circulation, access, and safety of all users
- Joining the Scouts Hall as an extension to the existing Community Hall to make the most of both spaces
- Addition of a suitable space within the site for the Bargo Men’s Shed
- Relocation of the tennis courts within the site to a better, more prominent space
- An exciting upgrade to the youth precinct/hub.
The Draft Master Plan includes a suitable location within the sportsground for a future facility for the Bargo Men’s Shed. It also identifies a possible location for an RV friendly camping area in the future, subject to approval.
Residents and users will soon have the chance to have their say on the proposed Master Plan through Council’s Your Say website.
