ABOUT THE NURSERY

The Robin Davies Wollondilly Community Nursery grows a variety of native plants, from grasses and groundcovers to shrubs, vines and shade trees.

The community nursery is not just a nursery though; it's also a community resource centre where local environmental, conservation and community groups can hold meetings, training days and other events. Organisations such as WIRES, the Wollondilly Garden Club, Wollondilly Regenerators and Propagators and local Landcare groups meet and train there on a regular basis.

All new Community Nursery Volunteers are fully trained in basic plant propagation, weed control, and seed collecting.

free plants for Wollondilly Residents

Grow your garden FREE! Did you know the Community Nursery offers 5 free native plants per quarter (that's 20 plants per year) to all Wollondilly households. For more information or to find out available plant species visit or contact the nursery via (02) 4677 1100 or nursery@wollondilly.nsw.gov.au.

Native trees for newborns

Council is proud to support parents by offering a FREE native tree to commemorate the arrival of local newborns. This simple token connects your family to the land, while helping grow a greener, more resilient Wollondilly. Planting native trees is a beautiful tradition and has many benefits such as boosting the local ecosystem and improving air and climate quality.

Our Nursery has a range of recommended species with suitability to local conditions, wildlife benefits, and ease of care in mind.  They are available for collection with your voucher after registration. To be a part of this program, please register below.

Please note Council will accept registrations for the program for newborns up to 3 months of age.

History & More Information

Meet Ron & Robin Davies

Ron and Robin have been part of the Wollondilly Community Nursery since the very beginnings.

History of the Robin Davies Wollondilly Community Nursery

The Robin Davies Wollondilly Community Nursery back in 1996 as part of the healing Stonequarry Creek program. The small nursery was originally set up on a disused tennis court at Victoria Park in Picton.

This attracted an initially small but extremely dedicated group of volunteers who propagated local seed for use on the creek project, as well as Council's award-winning roadside reserve strategy. The initiative was enormously successful and as a result the volunteers were rewarded with a new home on Wonga Rd, in mid 2001.

The nursery has since blossomed in both size and output, with over 40,000 plants distributed to various projects every year.

Community Vegetable Garden

We have a vegetable garden that was built with and is maintained by our volunteers. Local community members can pitch in and help grow heirloom variety vegetables and herbs. The garden was established using organic no dig gardening principles.

We have also built a wood fired cob oven which provides baked goods for our volunteer activity days including scones, damper and pizza using fresh herbs and tomatoes from the garden.

To keep the garden growing we have set up a seed bank for storing, producing, collecting and sharing open pollinated heirloom varieties of vegetables and herbs.
