Wollondilly Shire experienced record rainfall throughout March and April of 2022 during what had already been a wet summer. The heavy rainfall triggered geotechnical instability across the shire which caused significant damage to Council road infrastructure through landslips and rock falls.
Council is in the process of repairing road damage sites through assistance of NSW Disaster Assistance funding.
Barkers Lodge Road suffered a major upslope and minor downslope landslide. The downslope slip has been cleared of debris and buttressed with geofabric and rock fill. The upslope landslide has been cleared and field investigations undertaken to design a retaining structure which will allow the road to be opened to normal traffic movements. Construction windows will be limited by rail permits to build during rail shutdown windows.
The road will be under contraflow traffic management until the upslope landslip has been remediated. Please take care when driving through the site and allow additional travel time.
