The Project
Wollondilly Shire Council has been successful in a number of grants to bring much needed upgrades to Silverdale Rd. This includes;
- NSW Road Safety Program – Safer Local Government Roads, to implement road safety upgrades along Silverdale Road between The Oaks and Silverdale, which is referred to as Stage 1. This grant will provide $5 million to enable Council to upgrade the road to improve its quality and poor crash history. Additional works are also underway with the project funded under the Heavy Vehicle Safety & Productivity Program with some additional renewal funds from council to complete the section between Bents Basin Rd and the Bridge. This is referred to as Stage 1B.
- Federal Government Western Sydney Infrastructure Program (WSIP) which will see $6m of upgrades through Silverdale township between Warradale Road and the shopping centre, which is referred to as Stage 2.
Furthermore, with assistance under the WSIP, Council are developing strategic designs for the future Silverdale Road between Farnsworth Intersection and Wallacia. This is a challenging route, with Stage 3 being the route up to Baines Hill and Stage 4 being the exploration of options for an improved river crossing. The completed design will inform Councils long term vision for advocating, securing and implementing staged upgrades for this segment of road in the medium to long term.
This is great news for Wollondilly road users, with Silverdale Road one of the most frequently used roads in the Shire and our closest link to the new airport at Badgery’s Creek.
