Mayors Message - January 2024
Posted on: 30.01.2024
G’day everyone,
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a positive start to 2024. I look forward to seeing us achieve some amazing things together in the Wollondilly Shire this year.
I joined the community for our Australia Day event in the Botanic Gardens last week, and this will soon be followed by the Thirlmere Festival of Steam and Illuminate later in the year, and a string of other events in the Shire.
We will be seeing further progress on some of our exciting projects in 2024, including major upgrades to sportsgrounds at Tahmoor, The Oaks and Picton, a new community space at the Menangle Old School Site, and the completion of the Tahmoor to Picton Cycleway and Wollondilly’s new Performing Arts Centre.
Our civil works program is packed, as we continue to address the backlog of roads spending with a bigger investment than ever this year. Maintenance works are already under way across the Shire since we returned from the Christmas break; including the Production Ave/Warradale Road intersection at Warragamba, the Arina Road/Dwyers Road intersection at Bargo, and Silverdale Road at The Oaks. Our road crews have also paid visits to Couridjah, Buxton, Tahmoor and Wilton.
In the coming months will be working on the following roads and footpaths:
- Edward Street, The Oaks – Road renewal
- Waterhouse Drive, Silverdale – Road renewal
- Cawdor Road and Biffins Lane, Cawdor – Road renewal
- Douglas Park Drive, Wilton – Road renewal
- Milne Street, Tahmoor – New kerb and gutter construction
- John and Russell Street, The Oaks – new footpath construction
- Appin Road, Appin – new footpath construction
- May Farm and Burragorang Road intersection – Safer Roads Grant funded project – turn lane and visibility improvements
- Fitzroy Street, Wilton – new footpath construction
We will also continue to strongly advocate to secure the infrastructure needed to support our growing population; such as health services, schools and public transport. We want to build healthy and sustainable new communities as we continue to protect our unique towns and villages and beautiful open spaces.
I’d like to wishing all of our younger residents a fantastic start to the school year, and a happy 2024 to everyone!
Mayor Gould with Citizen of the Year 2024 Rosemary MacAllister
