Mayors Message - December 2023
Posted on: 07.12.2023
G’day everyone,
It’s hard to believe that the holiday season is upon us and we have almost reached the end of 2023. I am looking forward to celebrating the end of a busy year by attending events across the Shire with many of our amazing community members.
Council will host Christmas in the Gardens on the afternoon and evening of Friday 8 December in the Picton Botanic Gardens. There will be market stalls, food, entertainment and craft activities, as well as Santa photos and Christmas Carols. This will be a great night to take the family out and get into the Christmas spirit.
Entries are now open for the Christmas Lights Competition 2023. This year we will be creating a Christmas Lights Directory for residents to refer to as a guide to explore the amazing displays in towns and villages around the Shire. I’m really looking forward to taking a drive around and seeing the lights this year.
For those looking to cool off during summer, the Beach Bus will be hitting the road again in January 2023, offering Wollondilly residents free travel to North Wollongong Beach from various stops across the Shire. The hop on service will operate on four Thursdays during January 2024: 4 January, 11 January, 18 January and 25 January. Thanks to Tahmoor Coking Coal for their ongoing sponsorship of the Beach Bus, which has now been running for over a decade.
With many members of the community doing it tough this year, I am continuing the Mayor’s Giving Tree Christmas Appeal for 2023. I encourage you to embrace the spirit of giving by donating unwrapped gifts for children between 0-12 years old, gift vouchers for teenagers 13-17 years old or non-perishable food items at one of the designated delivery points; the Council Administration Building in Picton, the Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre, Community Links Wollondilly at Tahmoor, the Dilly Wanderer or the Mobile Library.
From my family to yours, have a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday period.
Mayor Matt Gould
