In June 2023, Council commissioned an independent Community Satisfaction Survey which was undertaken by Micromex Research via a random telephone survey with 401 residents living in the Wollondilly local government area.
The survey is a way that Council gathers direct feedback and data from the community to help;
Respondents were selected by means of a computer based random selection process using Australian marketing lists and a Unipolar Scale of 1 to 5 was used in all rating questions, where 1 was the lowest importance or satisfaction and 5 the highest importance or satisfaction.
Overall levels of community satisfaction with Council have stayed relatively stable at 72%.
The results do not show any statistically significant shift since previous survey results.
However, it is clear from the advice of the independent research company that Wollondilly’s results have stayed steady in recent years as many other areas have gone backwards and the significant investment and improvements made in recent years is being recognised by the community.
Wollondilly has faced many challenges over the past 3 years, and the significant growth being experienced across the Shire is putting pressure on our infrastructure and resources. The independent survey company has told us the impacts of external stressors, including Covid, natural disasters, the cost of living, population growth and overall lower levels of satisfaction with government organisations have impacted community perceptions across NSW.
Positively, despite the external stressors, our residents have continued to rate their quality of life in the area as very high. Other areas that our community rate highly include Recycling & Waste Management, Library and Children’s Services, Parks and Playgrounds, Ovals and Sportsgrounds, Protecting our Heritage Values & Buildings, Supporting our Community Groups & Local Tourism.
Key areas requiring attention include maintaining Council’s roads and footpaths, long-term planning for the Shire as well as planning and development, making decisions in the interests of the community and providing opportunities to participate in Council decision-making.
Council is listening to the community and is already focussing its efforts to address these priority areas identified by the community.
These results are reasonable, but our focus here at Wollondilly Shire Council is to significantly lift community satisfaction levels as this is a key measure of success.
We've already begun, with lots of improvements happening across Council already.
Lifting community satisfaction levels is our major focus for the coming years, to build on our good foundations created already, and the key focus areas for us as a business over the coming years include:
This will not happen overnight but the hard work to date and a concerted effort is being employed by everyone across our organization to improve our community satisfaction levels.
