About
The Stonequarry Creek Bush Tucker Garden is a stunning site that runs alongside the Picton Botanic Gardens. The site is a focus location for Wollondilly Shire Council's Bushcare Program and council have worked with community and corporate volunteer groups to restore the river flat forest that used to occur on the site pre-settlement.
Stonequarry Creek is prone to flooding during periods of high rainfall. The creek banks are also impacted by the establishment of invasive weeds such as Trad, Turkey Rhubarb, Privet and Wild Tobacco which can clog up our waterways and ultimately act like a bath plug during flood events.
Through Bushcare activity days, groups will remove invasive species and replace them with native trees and shrubs that will help the site become more resilient to high rainfall events, stabilise creek banks and enhance habitat for local birds, insects and other fauna. Some of the local native plants include Paperbarks, She Oaks, Wattles, Tea Tree and Mat Rush.
No experience needed. Our staff will provide guidance, tools and gloves.
Please be sure to wear a sun hat, covered shoes and clothing appropriate for working in the bush.
